Whole Foods to Sell Deerfields Gluten-Free Cookies
Schaumburg, Ill. (July 24, 2008)–
Deerfields Bakery, a family-owned business located in Chicago’s north
and northwest suburbs, announced that three Whole Foods in the Chicago
area are selling three varieties of the bakery’s gluten-free cookies.
Three Whole Foods stores, Lincoln Park (3241 N. Lincoln Ave.; 773-755-1500), South Loop (1101 S. Canal St.; 312-435-4600) and Wheaton (145 Rice Lake Sq.; 630-588-1500), will sell three varieties of the bakery’s gluten-free cookies: Triple Chips, Lemon Buttons and Day Dreams.
Triple Chips are
chocolate chip cookies with milk, dark and white chocolate chips. They
have an added burst of protein with the addition of quinoa, an ancient
grain considered to be a complete protein due to the presence of all 8
essential amino acids. Lemon Buttons, infused with real lemon, are topped with a lemon icing. Day Dreams are brownie-like cookies with white chocolate chips.
“With
the alarming rate of allergies and intolerances showing up in our
population, we wanted to create gluten-free products that use only
natural ingredients,” Deerfields Bakery co-owner Kurt Schmitt
explained. “It’s a perfect match-up with the Whole Foods’ philosophy.”
Whole Foods
features foods that are free from artificial preservatives, colors,
flavors, sweeteners and hydrogenated fats, and are committed to foods
that are fresh, wholesome and safe to eat.
